Who Was My Influence?

Recently I read an article in USA Today saying not only that Jacob was now the #1 baby name for a boy, but this trend has been influenced by the book series "Twilight". I myself recently had a baby boy and named him Jacob. However, Twilight was not  my influence. I am not even aware that Jacob was one of the characters in Twilight at the time.

My influence came from the Bible. Being raised with strong Christian roots and conviction, as well as having such a classic biblical name as Hanna, it seemed natural for me to look to the Bible for both of my children's names.

Hebrew in origin, the name Jacob means "the supplanter". A supplanter is one who takes the place or moves into the position of another.

Jacob and Esau were the twin sons of Rebecca and Isaac. He is first mentioned in the book of Genesis. Jacob was a thinker. He prefered to stay near home, unlike his brother Esau who was more of a man's man, who prefered to hunt and farm. Jacob and Esau where in competetion with each other, even in the womb. God chose Jacob (whom He later renamed Israel) to be the father of His chosen people, the Israelites. The book of Malachi, as well as Romans, mentions that God showed favor for Jacob. Ever heard the quote "Jacob have I loved"? Now you know where it came from.
