Mmmm...the smell of pancakes and maple syrup, delicious right? Normally yes, but in this case, no. After the most difficult week of toddler messes, our dear Benjamin topped them all today. I woke up to find the entire contents of a large bottle of pancake syrup poured all over the livingroom. He also managed to smash a whole new box of cereal into it as well.
It was a sight unseen by most people. Imagine gooey, thick, sticky syrup on the hard wood floor, the rug, and especially the couch. The entire house smelled like an IHOP! After spending what seemed like forever scrubbing, I managed to pretty much get the hardwood floor, the rug is reasonable, but the couch...oh man. It still needs work. I have heard from other mothers the wonders of having a Bissell Little Green Machine. It is basically a hand held steam cleaner for spots. After smelling the sweetness wafting through the door as we came back from church, It was time to dig into my pockets and buy one of those suckers. Buying a cleaner might seem frivilous when you are tight on funds, but this one time small amount is much better than buying a new couch and inevitably calling an exterminator.
The only good thing that came from this experience is that the pancake syrup is now masking the lingering smell of dried basil that he dumped int he kitchen yesterday!
I am now off to install yet another lock on the pantry that he will break by the end of the week and try out my new Bissell cleaner. Hope it does the job.
